In this 1635 autograph oil on canvas work by Rembrandt, we see the story of God testing Abraham’s free will and faith by asking him to sacrifice his one and only son, Isaac. With no animals worthy enough too sacrifice in sight, and Abraham always being a follower of god no matter the cause, was more then obliged too follow the word of the lord. Issac thinking it’s a regular sheep sacrifice had no idea what was in store. However due to Abrahams faith in the lord.. in the mist of the knife being held too his son’s throat for the sacrifice, an angel came too him advising him too stop and not too harm the boy. Reason being that the lord saw that he did in fact fear god. Abraham had tested his faith, let go of the knife, looked up and by some miracle saw a ram who’s horns were caught and stuck. In replacement for his son, he used the ram as the sacrificial flesh instead fore the lord provided.
